Sam Pushes Cilic to Five Sets
June 24, 2009

On Wednesday afternoon in London, Sam took Centre Court at the All England Club with top seed Marin Cilic of Crotia for his second round match at the 2009 Wimbledon Championships. Although Cilic is seeded #11 in the Gentleman's Singles this year, he did not intimidate Sam who won the first set 6-4 with one break of serve against Cilic. The second set was even closer between the two, but this time Cilic won the set in a tiebreaker 7-3 to even the match at one set apiece.

In the third set, Cilic's momentum continued against Sam winning it 6-3, but in the fourth set Sam rallied and fought back against Cilic to win it in a tiebreak 7-4 and take the match to a fifth, and deciding, set which Cilic eventually pulled out 6-4 to win the match.

After Sam's loss today, he will head back to Southern California to start getting ready for his next tournament in July - the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. To get all of the latest updates on Sam make sure and check back soon!
